Shinya Blattmann is a dedicated violinist, teacher, and collaborator who finds joy in sharing her love of music with others.
She pursued her Doctoral and Master’s degrees at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., under the guidance of Prof. Jody Gatwood. These programs were fully funded, a reflection of her commitment to her craft. Before moving to the United States, Shinya earned her Bachelor’s degree at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts) in Switzerland, studying with Prof. Robert Zimansky. Her musical journey began as a teenager when she was accepted into the pre-college program at the Winterthur Conservatory, where she studied with stunning Sibylle Tschopp.
While in the U.S., Shinya had the privilege of teaching violin and coaching the orchestra at Princeton University. She also contributed to the Princeton University Concerts Series as a project manager, gaining valuable experience in music programming and event organization.
Now based in Switzerland, Shinya shares her passion for music with students at the Gymnasium in Urdorf and the Music School Zürcher Oberland. She also directs the Youth Orchestra "Attacca," guiding young musicians in their artistic development. Beyond teaching, she supports UNICEF's mission to help children in need, combining her work with a commitment to making a positive impact.
Shinya embraces a wide range of musical styles and has collaborated with Swiss artists such as Pablo Nouvelle, Native, Nemo, Palma Ada, Hecht, Luca Duran, and Ethimm. Her work has extended to recording film scores and performing in commercials for brands like Ricola and Ochsner Sport, as well as the Italian film Peripheric Love. She has also improvised for ON's documentary film alongside Pablo Nouvelle.
Her performances have taken her to festivals like the Gurten Festival and Winterthurer Musikfestwochen, where she has appeared both as a soloist and as part of collaborative projects.
Shinya is grateful for the opportunities she has had, including performing for Pope Francis at the Catholic University of America, at the inauguration of Swiss President Ueli Maurer, and at the Kristallnacht Remembrance Concert. She has also appeared at the Swiss Movie, Music Awards and Sports Awards and performed with Il Divo.
Throughout her career, Shinya has received recognition in solo and chamber music competitions, but what brings her the most joy is making music with others. Whether playing in a studio, on stage, or with friends, she is always grateful for the chance to connect with people through music.
